Born in Rome in 1966, Niccolò Ammaniti is an Italian writer.
Niccolo Ammaniti is particularly drawn to the theme of adolescent angst and alienation.
He studied biology but did not complete his degree.
Early Career and Recognition
Ammaniti's 1994 debut novel, "Branchie!" (Gills), was inspired by his unfinished thesis on neuroblastoma. In 1997, it was acquired by the prestigious publisher Einaudi.
The novel follows a young Roman boy who travels to India to battle a tumor. A film adaptation was released in 1999.
